Michal Chelbin

Michal Chelbin

Born and raised in Israel, she was that female photographer who caught my eyes recently. Her photo album "Strangely Familiar" make me think about another female photographer, Diane Arbus, who put her camera lens on everyday life of the odds and the minority in society. Michal Chelbin was also good at deal with this issue.

I could see the tense through the blank looks on the faces in those pictures. Those were emotions hard to described or defined by only one dimension. You cannot say it's only sorrow on their face, because those people also showed indifference, conflicts, or hopeless. I love those works a lot.
